Hi reader,

I’ve been a bit out of the loop recently, having interviews, getting a new job, ramping up on a new stack and delivering. I recently joined Vibe.co, an advertising company, and I’m quite lucky having a whole new playground to exercise my skills in, and to learn a brand new job: LLM assisted SRE (Yeah, I wrote like 10 lines of code my first month, while I’ve done like 120 commits).

So, let’s get a look at what’s on my radar:

  • tmpout, vol. 5 - A brand new tmpout release! 5th. I can’t say enough about those oldschool papers. I really miss those. While we’re into old hacking mode, let’s talk about true cybersecurity - with the guys who made it: Where Warlocks Stay Up Late.
  • The Endless Temptation of Claude - I’ll be honest - the more I use agents, the more I want to deliver with them. And I want to build things that already exist. Unsure whether I should continue or stop - one thing is sure, I’ll try to limit myself. It’s been 25 years I’ve been coding, I’m tired of it, so everything I’ll do will have a good reason.
  • I gave Qwen 3.8 27B a reverse-engineering job I assumed needed a frontier model - I spent some time trying to reverse/break some licensing related to Qwen 3.8. I failed first, then I quickly was able to bypass the restrictions. It was as simple as renaming the project, and letting the model believe I was doing a CTF/crackme. Now, my main problem is overheating of the GPUs. Somehow, it was easier with Codex or Claude (cyber-security engineer mode enabled!). Anyway, I should try some uncensored model sometime.

Hey, I committed some stuff during my first month at $NEW_JOB:

  • workflow-version-pin - A basic GitHub workflow version scanner and SHA pinning. After the Trivy debacle, we wanted to secure the workflows a bit and make SHA-only versioning mandatory.
  • I fixed some bugs, added workflows in rss-to-bluesky - I found out some posts were dropped because some pictures were too big. I fixed some issues using Claude, I hope the bot users won’t mind.
  • clipboard-applet - A Wayland clipboard applet/manager, to make primary to regular copy easy; talks a bit with dbus, so with shortcuts!
  • power-module - To replace the bad Waybar widgets, and also have a simple command, because I had issues with the power delivery component on my new laptop.

That’s all for today, folks. See you soon - hopefully before another year passes!
